Q) My skin is in good condition even though I am 33 years old. However, I would like to take care of my skin using the correct high quality products in order to prevent wrinkles for as long as possible. My skin is very demanding, as it is oily in T face section and dry and red on my cheeks. Please advise what type of products I could use to get best results. Are there any organic brands that will work strong enough to stop aging of the skin and should they include so called Q10?
A) Combination skin is common and it can be difficult to care for. You'll want to balance the oil in the t-zone yet not irritate the cheeks or any other dry patches. I strongly recommend an in spa skin analysis to take a look at your skin and determine if you may also be dealing with rosacea – a common yet manageable skin condition. A combination of good home care products along with monthly professional treatments, good diet and exercise will keep your skin looking healthy and youthful as the years pass.
For combination skin I always recommend a mild gel cleanser in the warmer weather. Eminence Organic Stone Crop Cleanser is a great choice for your skin type. I do not recommend toners with alcohol as they can be irritating and increase dryness. As an alternative I would recommend Eminence Organics Stone Crop Tonique. Serums and a balancing moisturizer will also help keep your skin in check between spa visits.
Regarding Coenzyme Q10, in theory CoQ10 (in a skin cream, for example) may be helpful. In most people over thirty, levels of CoQ10 in the skin are below optimum, resulting in a reduced ability to produce collagen, elastin and other important skin molecules. In addition, CoQ10-depleted skin may be more prone to the damage by free radicals, which are particularly abundant in the skin since it is exposed to the elements. Based on this rationale as well as the drive to put new products on the market, some companies introduced skin care products with CoQ10. However, it is unclear whether these products are effective. Very few real studies indicating possible practical skin benefits of CoQ10 have been conducted so far.
Arguably, the most encouraging was a 1999 study by German researchers who reported that long-term use of CoQ10 reduced crows feet (wrinkles around the eye). While we do not sell any products with added CoQ10 we do offer a number of products by Eminence Organics that have been demonstrated to have a positive impact on aging skin.
