Heart Shaped Locks and Keys were something new and different that one of my couples fell in love with and decided to include in their ceremony. Here's what we came up with.
~ Lock and Key Ceremony ~
'Melissa and Randy described their theme for today as 'The Key to My Heart' and wanted to include something in their ceremony that would be a visual representation of the faith and trust that they place in one another for all their tomorrows. Melissa and Raymond you each have a heart shaped lock with a key. Will you please open those locks...

In his book 'The Bridge Across Forever', Richard Bach wrote:
'A soul mate is someone
who has locks that fit our keys,
and keys to fit our locks.
When we feel safe enough to open the locks,
our truest selves step out
and we can be completely
and honestly who we are;
we can be loved for who we are
and not for who we're pretending to be.
Each unveils the best part of the other.
No matter what else goes wrong around us,
with that one person we're safe
in our own paradise.
Our soul mate is someone
who shares our deepest longings,
our sense of direction.
Our soul mate is the one
who makes life come to life.'
Melissa and Raymond, will you now intertwine your open hearts, and before sealing them together, please place the keys in your hands through your own heart shaped lock. For as you are joined together this day so do you each accept that a marriage cannot be undone. The responsibility to stay close to one another in spirit is one that you joyfully embrace for all of your tomorrows. And please close those locks with their keys as a sign of your love and commitment to one another.
